Our advocacy page is where we inform members of political issues that affect credit unions in Iowa and across the nation. Since credit unions are financial cooperatives that direct profits back to their members and the community, it is important that all members know about pending legislation and actions that could affect them. The purpose here is not to influence your vote, but rather:
• explain the political and legislative issues facing credit unions
• show where your representatives stand on these issues
• provide educational links so that you can make informed decisions
• offer ways for you to take action!
Iowa Credit Unions help launch new site.
The new website, www.IowaCreditUnions.com/OneMillionStrong, is geared toward advocating on behalf of Iowa credit union issues. You'll find:
• Who your legislators are and how to contact them
• Issues and legislation important to credit unions
• Information on the legislative process...and more!

Take Action to Help Small Businesses Create Jobs
Iowa's small businesses are the driving force of employment and economic improvement. However, small businesses aren't able to get the funding they need to expand, hire and operate because banks have pulled back on their lending. One of the ways to help small businesses gain access to the credit they need is to lift the current credit union member business lending cap. Lifting the federal cap would create 2,495 new jobs in Iowa and 140,000 across the country with no cost to taxpayers. It would inject $13 billion into the national economy and $224 million of it would stimulate Iowa's economy.
The U.S. Senate is currently putting together a jobs bill, and raising the cap needs to be a part of this package. Please contact Iowa Senators Harkin and Grassley today and tell them that the business lending cap on credit unions should be raised to help create jobs in Iowa and stimulate the economy.
